Department of Regional Australia, Regional Development
and Local Government

The department is  a new creation with regional Australia enjoying a higher profile than has been the case in the past.

The Minister is the Hon Simon Crean MP who has a history of involvement with regional Australia through the original foreunner of Regional Development Australia, the Area Consulative Committee network which Mr Crean worked to establish in 1994-95.

Regional Development Australia falls under the new department, sitting broadly with a key research arm of government, the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics.
