MEDIA RELEASE 11 November 2011
Communities from around the Midwest Gascoyne region are set to benefit following a number of grant writing workshops which were recently held.
The workshops, facilitated by the Midwest Gascoyne Regional Development Australia, were held in Carnarvon, Morawa, Geraldton and Cue and were attended by over 60 people.
Alan Bradley, Midwest Gascoyne RDA Executive Officer, said he thought an opportunity to further skills in grant writing would be beneficial to the community following a recent round of grant applications.
“Groups from our region submitted a number of applications to the Regional Development Australia Fund, unfortunately many were not eligible because applicants hadn’t followed the grant guidelines,” said Mr Bradley.
“I thought the Advanced Grant Writing course would be great for the region, it not only allows our residents to gain new knowledge and experience but hopefully it will also translate to more successful grant applications in the future.
“The workshops were delivered by Our Community. Steve Ness was a great facilitator and the feedback we received was excellent.
One participant commented how they now had a better understanding of grant applications and the requirements. Another participant realised how important it was to plan and prepare before even considering applying for a grant.
“Slides and notes will be made available from the RDAMWG website and the Our Community website has a wealth of other information on topics to assist community and not for profit organisations. The website is www.ourcommunity.com.au
RDAMWG hopes to be able to provide more capacity building exercises in the future to further assist the regional communities.
The second round of the Regional Development Australia Fund is now open and information can be found at www.rdamwg.com.au .
